Gundam Epyon "The Hydra" Week 6

The things that i ordered arrived on monday, which made my week a lot busier but it was fun.Sometimes,i think i work too slow so a change of pace is refreshing. Before i start breaking down the things i've done,i want to tell you guys i'm thinking of changing the color scheme to that of the kshatriya.Since i want green as the main color, the color scheme look like its best suited. For the previous color scheme,my main concern wad the dark grey so i have been looking around for its replacement. Also i decided to not use the light grey too.I will post some samples when i've done mixing the colors,i hope that it will go well.

Now lets get on to the actual topic.i sanded and clean up the spikes for the sword guard and superglued onto it.

I modded the backpack to accomodate the extra shield on the back and make space for the fifth head's neck to be secured.i "kinda" combine the 2 backpack from shenlong and epyon together. But most its still epyon's backack because if i were to mod too much i may have difficulties attaching the wing.

I had to mod the connector on the shenlong's dragon fang so that i can attach them to the arms of the epyon and here is what i have modded.Epyons arm is a little bulkier than shenlong's so i had to remove the piece at the side.

Here is how the leg look after i added the spikes to the upper portion of the leg.

My extra metal thrusters also came together with the 2 boxes of shenlong,so i was finally able to fix them onto the booster.

I wanted to show you guys the primed version of the fifth dragon last week, but something broke so i remove it from the previous post.As you guys can see there is still a lot work to be done, also I'm quite concern with the curve panel lines that i want to draw on it.This will be my first time drawing non straight panel lines.so i'm a little nervous.

For the diorama,i have started scribing tiles patterns on the front of the pantheon, andi will continue this with the sides of the roof.I will also add more details in the following weeks. And for the pillars,i've made small steps for them to make them look as realistic as possible.

I'm finally at the half way point, and like i said last week i'm going to start painting next week.I will probably start with the light green parts first and separate them into 2 batches,as there is too many to be finished in 1 go.Thats all for now, please stay tune to the next update.Thx:) .

Gundam Epyon "The Hydra" Week 4

Wow,1 whole month have passed by so quickly.I wonder if i really can finish this in 3 months, that means i only have 2 months left...I always doubt myself when there is a time limit,i got to change that mentality and enjoy the build to the fullest...Ok,time to stop my whining and lets talk about the progress i've made this week.

Most of you may be wondering how is the wing doing,so lets start from there. The epoxy work on the wing is almost done and i'm currently focusing on cleaning the boomerang spikes up and duplicating them. And for the extra booster,i'll have to wait for the metal thrusters to arrive in order to progress further. The next step for the wing will be to use pla plates to beef it up.

I have also mixed the colors which i want to use,the main color is dark green and dark grey. For the yellow,i'm going to change it to yellow/orange which looks nicer with the green. For the light grey,i'm still thinking whether i want to change it into another color. Finally,i will be using metallic yellow for the eyes and orb.Tell me what you guys think about the color scheme,ok?I'm still a noob at choosing colors:(

I didn't show any pictures of the body that i have detailed up last week,so here is how some of the parts look after priming.

Here is one mod i did this week on the wing.I putty up the part highlighted in black and cut out a portion of the red part.I did this to cover the frame(which is the red part),now there is a clear separation between the red and dark grey part at the side.
This is how it looks before the mod.

I hope you guys like what i've done so far,and please stay tune for the next update.Cheers!

Gundam Epyon "The Hydra" Week 3

For this week,i've been working solely on the body as i got tired of sanding the wings.Sometimes, its best to change and work on something else, this helps me from getting burnt out.

Basically what i did was the same as my deathscythe hell, drawing the panel lines, adding rivets and pla plates,so i won't talk about those.

I did some modding to the ankle,to make the parts separable even after i cement them together and removing the seam line. How i went about doing so is rather simple and most of you should already know this. After i cement the 2 red parts and removed the seamlines,I drew a wide panel line right in the middle.Make sure the line is deep and use a hobby knife to cut in between the panel line and separating the 2 parts. Now,i can paint the red parts and the inner frame separately.

Most kits' ankle are like this, and if you do not want a panel line in the middle, you can draw 2 parallel panel lines on the sides and cut 1 of those right through to separate the 2 parts. After painting, the panel lines will look like its part of the design and the ugly seamline will be gone.

I wish i got more examples and photos to show, but i kinda got lazy...

The next thing i did is also a mod to clean up the seamline on the claw.First,i cut out the portion that is highlighted in black.Next, cement it onto the other part of the claw and putty the gaps. And the unpleasant seamline is gone.I hope the pictures will explain the steps better than i do...Haha...

And for all the joints,i sanded the black portions down so that they won't rub against other parts and scratch the paints off after painting.Even when the parts aren't touching each other after priming,it is likely that they will after painting because paints will add to the thickness of the surface.
Arm frame(Left),Leg frame top portion(Right)

For additional details, other than the rivets, panel line and pla plate,I added pipes underneath the shoulder to enhance the look of the inner frame.

I was thinking whether i should combine the 2 shenlong weapon and make it into the EW version,or use epyon's sword as the main weapon. What i don't like about the sword is the guard,it looks too small compared to the huge beam.So i went to test fit the fin onto the side of the guard,so as to extend the width and make it look bigger. The fins fit pretty nicely to the side,so i hope after some modifications i can make them movable so that when the beam is not activated,i can close the fins.

I'm going to mod the boomerang from destiny gundam into spikes for the wing. Here is the basic design for it.

I'm sorry for the wordy post, but i hope that some of the mods i explained can be of help to those who are just starting out gunpla.Thats all for now,see you guys on the next update:)

MG Gundam Epyon "The Hydra" WIP Week 1(part 2)

Hmm,i think i've posted the first wip way too early, with only 4 days of work there wasn't much content. So this will be like a part 2 of week 1's wip.

So for the past few days,i've been working on the wing and thinking how i should approach the 5th head.

Lets start off with the wing, the sanding was very tough this time.I don't know why but i just  can't get the shape right, especially the middle part.So i had to put epoxy and sand over and over again, which was kind of disheartening. It still needs more work but this definitely looks better than my first try.And i should also mention that i haven't even started sanding the other wing,so this is definitely going to be a long journey for me...

I've also started on the other parts of the wing that i want to add. These are still prototypes that i have to refine further.I'm not good at using pla plates for scratch building so these are the parts that worry me most.

For the fifth head,i added some of the epyon's parts to the side of the head to make it look more dragon like and fiercer. And of course i will have to recast the parts later on.The next step would be to add putty to try to blend the head with the twin cannon together so that it will look like 1 whole piece. This should be done by the next update.

I have also started marking out the places on the body that i want to add rivets. And i've also designed panel lines for some parts.I find this model very different from other model.I don't really know how to explain but i had a hard time deciding which parts need more details and which are the parts that i should leave alone. If you have seen my last project, you'll notice that i don't like to add too much because i know if i do that i'll just keep adding and make the whole thing a mess.

Not sure if i should put the "fangs"...

Thats all for now,i hope that this is more interesting than the first post.Cheers guys!!

How to scribe nice and clear panel lines for your gundam models.

Most of you may already know how to scribe panel lines, but for those who are still finding a good way to do this, this tutorial may be able to help you.
When I was finding ways to scribe panel lines,my main problem was scribing similar pattern to both sides of a part. There are some who use tracing paper, but i find it hard to use because sometimes the transferred pencil marks does not come out clearly. Thus,I went to find other alternatives and i find using a transparent sheet to mark out,the easiest way to do this.

Tools-These are the scribing tools i use,the small scriber(top) have a small tip and the bigger scriber(bottom) is for scribing larger lines.

Step 1-Draw out the pattern on the piece you wish to scribe new panel lines.

Step 2-Using thick masking tapes(scribing marks) as guidelines, scribe lines gently along the tape with the small scriber.

Step 3-Place a piece of transparent sheet over the pattern, use a marker to mark out the corners.Pierce through the markings with the small scriber or needle(something sharp).

Step 4-Place the transparent sheet over the other side of the piece(you can secure it with tape),gently poke through the holes and this will mark out the corners of the pattern you want to scribe. Then, repeat step 2 and 3.
Step 5-Use the bigger scriber to widen and clean the the panel lines.

Step 6-Sand the surface until even and the new panel lines are done.

Of course, patience and practice are keys to scribing nice panel lines. But I hope this will help ease the process.Thank you for dropping by.
